Boland and Western Province continued their winning streaks on the third day of the U18 Stadio Craven Week at Hoërskool Monument in Krugersdorp, while the Sharks and Valke also secured important victories.
Boland and WP Maintain Unbeaten Records
Boland secured their second win of the tournament by defeating Border 34-20 on Wednesday. Flyhalf Luan Giliomee was instrumental in Boland’s success, contributing 14 points. Western Province (WP) also extended their winning tally by overpowering Eastern Province (EP) with a commanding 66-14 victory.
Both Western Cape teams will enter the final round on Saturday with the prospect of finishing the U18 Stadio Craven Week unbeaten.
High-Scoring Start to the Day
The third day began with an exciting match between Valke and Leopards. Valke’s winger TK Ngobese scored two of their six tries, helping his team to a 36-26 victory, their first of the tournament. Despite Leopards crossing the line four times, Valke controlled much of the game.
Sharks Bounce Back
After a first-round loss, the Sharks came back strong to beat South Western Districts 28-19. The Sharks were trailing by nine points at halftime but managed to score three tries in the second half. Replacement hooker Martin van Wyngaardt Jnr scored to secure the win.
Dominant Performance by WP
In the day’s final game, Western Province showed their prowess by defeating Eastern Province 66-14. WP started explosively, scoring 33 unanswered points before EP responded with two converted tries. However, WP regained control and ultimately scored a total of 10 tries.
