Rising Rugby Talents; Grant Khomo Week 2024 Ready to Shine in Gqeberha
South Africa’s top youth rugby event, the Grant Khomo Week, is all set to illuminate Grey High School in Gqeberha from June 17 to June 21. This renowned Under 16 tournament, a part of SA Rugby’s annual Youth Weeks program, will see 20 provincial teams competing vigorously over a thrilling three-day period.
The tournament commences with the Pumas facing off against Griquas at 09:20 on the Kolisi Field. Noteworthy matchups include the Blue Bulls taking on the Western Province XV at 13:40 after their victory over Free State in last year’s informal final. The day concludes with a rivalry between hosts Eastern Province and Western Province, promising an electrifying clash.
Matches are set for Monday, Wednesday and Friday, with Wednesday’s games determined by Monday’s outcomes to ensure matchups between strong teams. Each match comprises two halves of 30 minutes each, with teams required to provide playing time for all squad members in line with the tournament’s inclusive participation regulations.
This year’s edition sees STADIO joining as a partner, underscoring its dedication to sports and education.
“The alignment between STADIO’s goals and the purpose of the Youth Weeks makes for a perfect marriage and their support is highly appreciated.”
Rian Oberholzer, CEO of SA Rugby.
Named in honour of the rugby figure Grant Khomo, this tournament remains a crucial platform for showcasing and nurturing young rugby talent in South Africa. The event not only showcases budding stars but also honours the nation’s rich heritage and evolution of rugby.
